Police Divers Assist In McLaren Falls Search

Tauranga – The Police National Dive Squad from Wellington is today assisting Police with the search for a man missing at McLaren Falls, Tauranga. At approximately 5.20pm yesterday (Monday 16 November) one man is believed to have fallen from a rope swing into the water and got into difficulty. A second man went in to assist and both disappeared from view. The body of one of the men was located later in the evening, but a search late into the night failed to locate the second person.

The deceased was in his 20s and the man missing is also in his 20s. Police are in contact with families, but it is not appropriate to provide further details at this time. Police have also been assisted in the search by the TECT rescue helicopter, Tauranga USAR, Tauranga LandSAR, Tauranga Coastguard, Papamoa Surf Life Saving and AREC (Amateur Radio Emergency Communications)
